Former Union Minister, senior BJP leader, and noted animal rights activist Maneka Gandhi has expressed serious concern over the presence of naked power transmission lines passing through the Dhela Range of Corbett National Park. She has reportedly been raising the issue for nearly a year, calling these exposed power lines a major danger to birdlife in the region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking to Garhwal Post, Gandhi claimed that more than 3,000 birds have died from electrocution over the past year due to these transmission lines. According to her, species such as eagles, kites, vultures, and owls have been among the worst affected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She further stated that she has repeatedly discussed the matter with Corbett Tiger Reserve Director Saket Badola and other officials. While authorities assured her that steps would be taken, she said no visible action has been implemented so far, and birds continue to die due to electrocution. Gandhi added that park officials had informed her they would approach the electricity department to request the removal of the naked power lines from the Dhela Range.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Highlighting the seriousness of the issue, Gandhi noted that many of the affected bird species are already endangered and questioned why effective measures have still not been taken. She also mentioned that she had raised the concern with Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan, who had also promised action, though no concrete progress has been seen on the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Seeking wider public attention on the issue, Gandhi appealed for support in bringing the matter before the public and the Chief Minister. She also confirmed that she plans to raise the issue directly with the Chief Minister\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
