Corbett National Park warden Binder Pal Singh said that the adult male tiger was rescued and taken to the rescue centre in the Dhela range of the national park for treatment.
A team of veterinarians carried out a postmortem examination of the carcass at the Dhela rescue centre on Wednesday.
Forest officials said that an adult male tiger, which was rescued in a critically injured condition from the Phato range of Uttarakhand’s Terai West forest division, died during treatment at a rescue centre in Corbett National Park on Tuesday evening.
The tiger had been rescued a few days earlier and was moved to the rescue centre in the Dhela range of the national park, where a team of wildlife veterinarians provided treatment and monitored it round the clock.
“The tiger was rescued a few days ago in an extremely serious condition and brought to the rescue centre in the Dhela range of the park. Its condition was critical when it was rescued. A team of wildlife veterinarians immediately started treatment and kept the tiger under round-the-clock observation,” Corbett National Park warden Binder Pal Singh said.
A team of veterinarians conducted a postmortem examination of the carcass at the Dhela rescue centre on Wednesday. The procedure was conducted following the guidelines of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA), in the presence of forest officials, wildlife experts and representatives of non-governmental organisations.
Singh said biological samples needed for further examination were collected during the postmortem. These samples would be sent to the Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), Bareilly, and the Wildlife Institute of India (WII), Dehradun, for detailed analysis.
“The exact findings about the tiger’s condition and the cause of its death will be known after the samples are examined and other required procedures are completed,” the official said.
Singh added that the tiger’s carcass was cremated and disposed of in accordance with the guidelines of the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA).
