Akshay Kumar is reportedly set to portray a character inspired by legendary hunter-turned-conservationist Jim Corbett in his ninth collaboration with filmmaker Priyadarshan. The yet-untitled film is expected to combine comedy and thriller elements with a strong focus on wildlife conservation.
Set in 1960s India, the story will reportedly follow a skilled hunter and tracker whose relationship with the forest changes over time. While the character initially hunts man-eating tigers and leopards that threaten villagers, his perspective gradually shifts as he witnesses the consequences of poaching and deforestation.
According to a Mid-Day report, the fictional protagonist will have an exceptional understanding of the forest and its wildlife. A source quoted by the publication said that the character begins his journey as a hunter who tracks dangerous animals but eventually becomes an advocate for protecting wildlife and preserving natural habitats.
The character is not a direct portrayal of Jim Corbett National Park, but is said to draw inspiration from his life. Born Edward James Corbett in Nainital, Corbett was a British-Indian hunter, tracker, naturalist and author. He became widely known for tracking man-eating tigers and leopards in North India before becoming an important figure associated with wildlife conservation.
The upcoming project will mark another reunion between Akshay Kumar and Priyadarshan, who have previously worked together on films such as Hera Pheri, Garam Masala, Bhagam Bhag, Bhool Bhulaiyaa, De Dana Dan, Khatta Meetha and Bhooth Bangla.
Much of the new film is expected to be shot in forest locations. After the release of Haiwaan, Priyadarshan and his team are reportedly planning a location recce across the jungles of Rajasthan and Gujarat. The production is expected to follow a continuous shooting schedule primarily based in forest areas.
The makers are yet to finalise the female lead, while further casting details remain under wraps. Priyadarshan is reportedly scheduled to begin pre-production in October 2026, with filming expected to commence in January 2027 and continue through a single start-to-finish schedule.
